“Suffering for Good” – 1 Peter 2:18-25

If you suffer for doing good this is commendable before God

Word Study: servants; Greek οἰκέται, oiketai (5 NT occurrences:

Matthew 24:45; Luke 16:13; Acts 10:7; Romans 14:4 & 1 Peter)

The word refers to those employed about a house, or living in the same house – from οἶκος oikos, “house” so it refers to a family or household relationship of servant to master, not slave ownership.

Excellent Suffering – Commendable

How can our serving and suffering accomplish God’s approval?

1. Surpassing Good – verses 18-20 (our commitment)

Suffering for doing good

 

2. Silent Trust – verses 21-23 (our confidence)

He entrusted himself to Him who judges justly

 

3. Superior Example – verses 24-25 (our Champion)

He himself bore our sin
