Finish Suffering – 1 Peter 4:1-7a
Christ suffered in the flesh, so arm yourselves likewise
Arm yourself by preparing to do battle and finish the race
The suffering attitude & example of Christ – three resolves
- Finish with flesh – verses 1-2
He who suffered in the flesh is done with sin.
- Regard yourself as dead to evil desires
- Arm yourself with resolve to fulfill the will of God
- Finish with sin – verses 3-4
You have spent enough time living in the past
- Regard yourself as dead to sinful passions
- Arm yourself with resolve to flee the passions of the past
- Finish with self – verses 5-7a
But live according to God
- Regard yourself as alive to the Spirit
- Arm yourself with resolve to follow the Spirit of God
“The end of all things is near, therefore…” 1 Peter 4:7a
