April – Abortion Awareness Month
Did you know that April is Abortion Awareness Month?
The following is not political – the words are not political, the stories are not political, the issue is not political.
It’s a heart issue.
It’s easy to make it political when you don’t have any skin in the game, but that’s just the thing, we all have skin in the game.
Because it involves life. The baby’s life, the mother’s life, the father’s life, and all those that love them. It is said that 1 in every 4 women have had an abortion, so you see… we are all in the game.
I’m so proud of my friend Beth who chose to listen to the Spirit’s tugging on her heart and softly say… “I had an abortion”. This sent her on a journey of listening to God and following where He is leading her. She is being brave. She is speaking on radio shows and on podcasts and in churches and at events talking about that choice she made at age 18. That choice sent her into a lifelong bondage that affected decisions she made and decisions she didn’t make. She shares how she tried to ignore the pain and hide the shame. But that’s the thing… you can’t hide forever and when God starts tapping… the healing can begin.
I’m so proud of my son-in-law Jason, who listened to Beth’s story and responded to her testimony and showed up to the recovery group. The only man. The only one brave enough to say “My girlfriend had an abortion.” He wanted that baby. He bought little baby Jordan outfits and started imagining being a daddy. But he and his girlfriend weren’t going to make it anyway, and she made that decision, and they broke up. And, filled with hidden shame, Jason never grieved the loss of his child. Until he stepped out and asked Beth if he could join the group. He showed up and followed where God led. Now he’s willing to lead the way for other men. By sharing his testimony and asking other men to be brave, to listen to the Spirit, to let the healing begin.
Beth and Jason are leading a SaveOne Abortion Recovery Group. SaveOne’s mission is to help women, men and loved ones recover after abortion.
Now I realize some of you may be struggling with this and your heart is crying out “What about the babies? What about the lives that have been taken, the pain they felt, they terror they experienced?”
Yes – what about the babies, it’s absolutely heartbreaking and horrifying.
And God has them. This is not an excuse, or a justification. It’s just the truth. God has them.
Countless babies are in His Hands, in His Care, in Heaven. It’s astounding to think how vast Heaven is. Our small finite minds can’t begin to grasp the unendingness of God.
Those countless babies have countless mother’s and countless father’s and they are suffering at the self-inflicted loss.
If you are that 1 in 4.
If you love someone who is that 1 in 4.
It’s time.
It’s time to let the Spirit lead you.
It’s time to let the Father heal you.
It’s time to let Jesus walk with you as you face your heart and the pain and shame and loss that lives there.
